The Mighty Mug: A Solution to End Spilling

If you’re the type of person who is always damaging your carpet, electronics, and furniture with spills, the Mighty Mug just might be the most important invention since the light bulb.

I recently had the chance to test out some of Mighty Mug’s long line of products, and I must say, I was pretty impressed. While at first glance, Mighty Mug might appear to be an infomercial-ready gimmick that isn’t quite as cool once you get it out of the box and into your home, I can attest to the fact that this product is actually extremely useful and works just as intended; I will definitely be using the Mighty Mug whenever I have coffee on my desk at a minimum.

Before I delve further into the specifics, check out the video below to get a general sense of the magic of the Mighty Mug.

So, as you can see, the Mighty Mug works by creating a sort of suction on a surface, but this is not like a suction cup you stick to a window. Rather, the bottom of the product is made of a sort of hard plastic that absolutely does not cling to every surface it touches. The technology the company uses allows you to take the Mighty Mug off of the table without using an ounce more effort than you would use on any other mug or thermos.

Yet, the technology used allows the Mighty Mug to create a sort of vacuum seal that can only be broken when lifted directly up – trying to make the thing budge from the sides is damn near impossible. Trust me, after seeing the above video, I thought he didn’t really push the boundaries that much, so I gave my mugs some pretty solid slaps – well beyond the force that would ever be naturally exerted on them to create a spill – and they didn’t budge (Although, please note that if you don’t always think things through, as I don’t, a full mug will still slosh liquid over the top if slapped). I was extremely impressed with the performance of the models I tested, and they did exactly what they claimed to.

While testing out the mugs I received (both were broadly in the genre of thermos), I couldn’t help but think of an even better use for Mighty Mug technology. Raise your hand if you’ve ever damaged your couch or carpet with red wine – I’m assuming that’s almost everyone. Without a doubt, red wine is one of the worst drinks you can possibly spill, and given the fact that your coordination is probably at least a little impaired while you’re drinking it, spills are even more likely. So, imagine my excitement when I found out that Mighty Mug has already conquered the wine glass game too! While I will definitely use the thermoses (yeah, I’ve spilled my share of coffee too), I cannot imagine of how much upholstery can be saved by Mighty Mug’s wine glasses. They are truly doing society a service.

I would highly recommend the Mighty Mug, especially to people who drink coffee near their computers, and people who love red wine.
