I recently read an article on Thought Catalog entitled “25 men discuss the difference between the girl they want to date and the girl they want to hook up with.” Now. I mean this as no discredit to the author, because she simply posed the question on the website Reddit and recorded twenty-five of the responses. To her credit, it is an interesting concept in essence. The subject alone has the potential to become a really provocative peek into the so called “toxic hook up culture” and get an interesting conversation started.

This year, I’ve dedicated my time to a lot of worthy, intellectual causes. Most important? Slowly working my way through Gossip Girl on Netflix. As someone who considers a 40% off sale at Loft to be a dose of excitement into daily life, I have become absolutely addicted to the scandal, drama, and debauchery that the show is famous for. Other than entertainment purposes it serves, the characters on Gossip Girl have, in their own hyperbolic way, served as a wonderful barometer for flawed human relationships that we constantly encounter

Nearly everyone loses some kind of interpersonal or sexual inhibitions when they are on their own for the first time, and a lot of people end up with one-time sexual encounters with strangers, no strings attached. It’s almost like a game. Cursory Eye-contact with a stranger in the PIKE basement turns into a 4 AM Stride of Pride back home faster than you can say hook up culture. However, I’m

You know who I’m talking about, even its only something you’ll admit when no one else is around. Even if this accusation about this person is something you’ll push to the back of your mind, squishing the thought with so much fortitude that it disintegrates, for a moment at least. But you know who that person is. There’s no escaping it.

Read MoreI just completed my freshman year at the University of Michigan. It was turbulent, to say the least. Not in the sense that scores of dramatic events kept happening to me, but that my emotions had never gone through such a tumultuous course before. Adjusting was difficult, to say the least. I go to a public university in a state other than my own. A school with 30,000 high-achieving students. Many people came to school with high school friends, extended family members, or roommates they had chosen. My friend group

Today, I’d like to discuss a relationship phenomenon that is HUGE in our generation, and the bane of “unicorns” (late teens or twenty-something’s who have never been a relationship) everywhere: the friend zone. I’ve been there. You’ve been there. We’ve all been there. And it sucks. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, you should check your back for loose wiring,
Read MoreRecently, I was going through some less-than-Beyonce-fabulous feels. I felt jealousy towards certain individuals, low self-confidence, contempt for my outward appearance, and had a desire to disappear. In that moment, I felt poignantly alone. Naturally, I wanted to articulate these sentiments by singing some passionate musical theatre song alone in my bedroom (I promise I have friends, guys.) As I was scrolling through my 370-track-long Broadway playlist on Spotify (again, I SWEAR ON MY MOTHER’S GRAVE that I have friends), I realized that there were zero songs about simply feeling

I’m home for the summer after my first year of college. Now, I’ve been working a few part-time jobs, catching up with friends, and re-adjusting to suburban life, but I have found myself with a larger abundance of down time than I had at school. So, how does that culminate? Like most college students, free time translates into lying under my covers, and staring at a computer screen. In my specific case, it means catching up on the entire season of Saturday Night Live that I neglected to watch during
